Prenatal Chiropractic

One of the most important times to receive chiropractic care is during pregnancy. During this miraculous 9 months, the mother’s body grows and changes in astounding ways to accommodate the growing life within. Loosened ligaments and shifted body weight make expectant mothers more vulnerable to pelvic misalignment. This can cause symptoms such as back and hip pain, pubic joint pain, and sciatica. Also, since the uterus is directly attached to the pelvis by several ligaments, a misaligned pelvis tends to twist the uterus.  Sometimes this will prevent the baby from assuming the optimal head-down position.

Dr. King is certified in the Webster Technique, a system of analyzing and adjusting the pelvis of an expectant mother in order to improve the neuro-biomechanical functioning of the pelvis, thereby allowing for optimal fetal positioning. Women who have regular chiropractic care throughout pregnancy tend to have more comfortable pregnancies and easier deliveries. If you are planning on having a natural birth experience, chiropractic should definitely be part of your prenatal care, even if you have no back pain!

After having a baby, a new mom encounters new challenges. The awkward postures often assumed while constantly holding and feeding a newborn can wreck havoc on the upper back, neck, and shoulders. Also, the abdominal muscles are still weak at this point, leaving the lower back vulnerable to injury. Dr. King provides new mothers with the TLC that they need, as well as specific exercises to rehabilitate the abdominal muscles.
